  • Help Choosing Mike Wooldridge Cue

    Hi all,

I would appreciate some help here.

Which one of these MW cues would you choose, The Black Shark or the MW-01?

The Black Shark which I think is machine spliced is estimated at £375 with extensions and the MW-01 which I think is hand spliced is estimated at £625 with extensions.

Is the extra cost justified on the MW-01?

Which would you go for and why?

Ive noticed that if you go thro the VCM as you have, the black sharks come out way too much !!! the black shark starts at £170 - so cant imagine extensions costing £200 - something wrong somewhere, and how can a plain ebony mw-01 cost that much ????????

This is what I was thinking. I have been put off by the prices for some time now. I have gone for the plainest choices to keep the price down. This is just an estimated price, the extensions add an extra £75 to the final price.

I hope you are right about the price.

I,ve just sold a shark this week Snawaz and can definitely recommend them . The only reason i sold was because i bought too many cues and had to sell one quick , and a member was looking for a shark so the timing was convenient .

I cant comment on the 01 , but i,ll definitely be buying another shark at some stage .

Another cue that is excellent value for money is the gbl champion . You will have to look really hard to get better value , everything about them is spot on i cant praise them enough .

Why not e-mail Mike and ask what the prices would be.

I reckon both cues would be excellent, but just for cosmetic purposes i'd go with the MW-01 as I don't like the look of the butterfly splicing.

                  im with dan27,

its not the first time that people ask about particular thing about mike's cues and somehow end up having mike stepping into the forum and saying "why dont you ask me?"

he's the cuemaker afterall. his shop is his email. just like any customer in any face-to-face contact situation, and just like people asking for sizes in a shoe shop, he knows more than we do, when it comes to peculiar issues like these.

i'd choose the cc-01. purely on the cosmetics side, cc-01 would really reflect what a great cuemaker mike is because his splices are magnificent on the practical side, if for any reason you want to sell it, there is always someone who carves for a mike cue.

                    Good advice,

                    Thanks to both of you.

I will e-mail mike, and I too prefer the MW-01 splicing.

                    Hope the price is right.

All black sharks are hand made. The "stock" black shark has a standard shaft, the VCM black shark has deluxe shaft, like the rest of MW cues - hence the price difference.

                          £375 for a butterfly splice and £625

                          I'm gobsmacked

Cue prices are like oil lately
