  • -I Need to buy a new cue. Help me decide?

    Hello,

    I am a 16

    http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Browse...7C14419338.htm

i just need help on what cue i should get for playing snooker. I know i need a decent tip although im not sure what size tip or whatever, all i know it needs to be rounded, lol.

So anyone got any suggestions on which cue would be a nice cue to get? My budget is unknown so i know that will not make it easy to help me out, but i am mainly looking at the 20-40 quid range but any info on the other cues is also going to be helpful..

    -Thanks

Hi Darren , dont think you,ll get anything decent for that money . My advice is to save around £150 and then ask for advice . You will have several options then but as it stands i dont think you have any .

If your not in a rush then i will have a few for sale in a few weeks .

You can get cues for £30, those sort of varnished/laminated type ones from sport shops with Ronnie's autograph printed on them. They would be perfectly fine for a young gent.

Keep using the clubs rack cues, until you get more experience and save a few more shillings. That is what most of us did when we first started.

Yes, I think using a rack cue for now is not a bad idea. Sometimes, a rack cue is better than the really inexpenisve cue you buy from the store.
If you find a rack cue you really like, may be you can ask to buy it or just have the owner put it aside for you to use.
If you really know what you like in a cue, a good cue will cost you upward of 150GBP but should last you many years to come; while if you buy these very inexpensive cues, you may end up changing to another one and yet another one soon after...
Of course there is nothing wrong with experimenting and we all learn from trial and error but I just think may be you want to save a bit more money so even if you are going to experiment you will do so with something you can sell and recover part of your investmant later had you do not like it.
          Good luck.

You could buy a cue now for £40 then feel it is too light.
Then you think i will buy a new one an oz more in weight and you find it is too whippy!
Now you have to buy a stiffer shafted cue! another £40 and it is a lottery it could warp or be whippy or too stiff!
By now your thinking ive spent £120 in cues and its not right still!

Find the rack cue you like the best and try out your mates find out the dimensions and then buy your cue from a good cue maker.

Stick to standard size's in general it will cost less :a MW BLACK SHARK costs about £160 but add more to size etc and the costs soon escalate.

            Hope this helped :-)

You will pick up a decent used cue for that keep looking on ebay.

Will at least keep you going until you save up and know what you want.

I would not think that Argos is the right place to get your cue from. You would certainly get the same sort of thing elsewhere for a lot less money.
