  • New Ferrule

Hi all, looking for some advice really about getting a new ferrule fitted to my cue.

Basically I have made it uneven removing my old tip. I do have someone who has levelled it out somewhat (but by no means perfect) but still has a slight drop at the edges.

Anyway what I was wondering is where would the best place to get a new one fitted? I was looking to get the tip size altered anyway to 9.5mm but this has brought my plans forward somewhat.

    Thanks in advance.

Actually I'm curious about this too, and want to add a couple of questions.
1 - If a ferrule needs to be evened out or shortened, by filing or whatever, is there a risk of it coming loose or developing a poor hit?

2 - If a new ferrule is fitted, does this mean losing some of the shaft? I've heard it does.
    Tear up that manure-fed astroturf!

Depends on whether it is a like for like size.

If u have a 9mm tip and want 8mm u are going to have to have the cue tapered down.

If u want to change from 8mm to 9mm. U are going lose some length where the shaft has to cut to get it back to 9mm. I think lengths can be extended though via additional splices

I guess the best value for money is to go to a local cue maker to get new ferrule as postage costs will not occurr or u could send it to any of the top cuemakers for a good job.

I have a 9.8mm tip, want a 9.5. As for local shops, I really can't find any here, does anyone know of any cue shops in north Wales (around Wrexham and Chester area)?

You don't have to re-taper the cue to get a smaller tip.
You can always taper the ferrule itself, especially if your only changing from 9.8-9.5mm
Recently I've changed and made ferrules tapering from 7.7-6.8mm and 8.8-8.15mm

This way you don't change the feel of the shaft and can always go back if you dont like it.
