  • Will hanging your cue straighten your cue?

Have a cue with me that has somehow developed a slight bend by the tip side, even though i have kept it safe inside the case and wipe it carefully with a slightly damp cloth. It is minimal, but it is getting on my nerve.

Would like to know if hanging the cue, and adding weights by the bottom would help straighten it?

Or, alternatively, lay the cue on a flat surface (ie floor) and place a pile of books on the bend area to reverse the bend...would that work?

    thanks

Take it to a cue maker , wont cost a lot and you then have piece of mind .

If a cuemaker is local then i would also take it there. Straightening can be done for £10ish.

If its small and near tip end, they will probably bend it back by hand and some steam.

As to answer ur question, hanging it properly with weight on bottom has a strong chance of straightening it. Providing the cue isnt varnished, u can steam where the bend is also.

Bear in mind, cue may need a refinish after.

I dont think you can really straighten a cue succesfully by just hanging it, or putting some books on the cue. If you try to do it yourslef by pressing it you could bend it to a "S" or make it worst. Unless of course you know what you are doing.
To get it sorted out by a cue doctor is the best way to handle it. It is not that much.

          thanks for the info.

its just a tiny bend. im not too keen about the idea of having to refinish my cue, because my prolong used has developed a really nice dark brown color, even though theres a lighter shade by the wood of the ferrule, kindly like steve davis's cue.

im not too keen to send it to a cuemaker for 2 reasons. one is the hassle of finding material (most probably bubble wrap) to wrap a 1pc alum case. and the other is for fear of losing that color if the cue needs to be refinished.

i've tried laying a pile of dictionaries and it seemed to fixed it. but i dont know if it would happen again...

            Glad you think its sorted.

Depending on where you are in the country, you wouldnt have to send the cue, just drive it to the local cue maker.

In my experience, unless you are removing a lot of the taper then a refinish wont take away the darkened mature look of a shaft.
