  • Recommend me an oil

    Hi all,

Just gettig back into the game, dug my old stick out retirement but i have a problem it has never been oiled and i want to get it back to good condition. I am considerating giving it a once over with 0000 wire wool and giving it a good soaking in oil (linseed/teak) im not really sure which, hopefully thats where you lot come in? Any advice and or help would be appricated.

    Regards

I don't use wirewool in the wood, only very-very fine sandpaper.
Is the cue currently oiled or varnished?
If oiled, then you can use Raw Linseed Oil from any ironmongers/DIY BUT do not soak it
Only apply a little to a piece of lint free cotton or paper towel and apply evenly. leave for a little while and wipe any excess, then leave over night or until it is dry to touch.
If the cue is very dry it may dry very quickly as it absorbs the oil, then you can apply another light coat, wipe excess, leave.
When dry wipe down vigourously with dry paper towel to buff.
Repeat until you have a nice smooth
    see http://www.handmadecues.com/info/20-cuecare.htm for good tips.
You can use other oils; Mike Wooldridge, John Parris, Aurora Cues, etc., etc. sell their own blend of oils/waxes, and have had good reports on here.
    All the best
    Up the TSF! :snooker:
