  • Rosewood or Hand Spliced?

    Hi,
i would like to know what is the difference between the two types

all i know is that Hand Spliced costs almost double than Rosewood
and is it worth getting a hand spliced cue or will a rosewood cue do a good job?

Your a bit mixed up there. Rosewood is the name of a type of wood. Splicing is a method of joining two woods together.
Basically a snooker cue is either a shaft of Ash(most popular) or Maple spliced to a butt(handle) of Ebony(traditioanally) or any other kind of wood, Rosewood is used more and more as Ebony is endangered and thus expensive.

Where the two join they do so by either a hand spliced joint or a machine made one, machine made being a quicker thus cheaper method. Handmade splices are rounded compared to the sharp points of a machine made joint and thus easily identified.

The butt itself can have splices although these are purely decorative.

Go have a play with this you'll see what i mean... http://www.cuewizard.com/Wizard.html
