  • f1 extensions

Just received my long f1 and minibutt in the post today, have to say I'm very impressed with them. The long extension in particular surprised me, very solid feel and the end feels like a rounded cuebutt in comparison to the vast majority of extensions out there that just have a plastic feel to the end you hold.

Just pleasantly surprised about how something I'd not normally think much about has a far superior feel to any extension I've used before. It obviously costs a bit more but the difference in quality IMO is well worth it.

Yup its the little touches that make them so much better to use, they feel much more solid than regular extensions, plus the handle being made of a different material really gives a quality feel instead of aluminium dipped in plastic as is the norm.

One slight negative I would say ( if that's allowed )..
I opened my cue case once when it was proped up and the small F1 fell about 6" on to the larger one. This minor impact caused the male part of the long extension to buckle so it would no longer fit the joint. I reemed the joint and it now fits OK but thats a lot more flimsy than i've expected with other extensions!

Trying to bob a chalk in it in a confined space.. lesson learned!
The tolerence must be really tight because it was only a little dink but no chance it would go in without repair.

0.02mm. So yes, pretty right tolerance

Actually I'm making some joint protectors which may help avoid 'accidents' in future.

lol. actually the name came about cos of the tight tolerances required.

my engineer would say "ffs mike! you're talking formula one tolerances here..."

                    Phah 0.02mm ? Luxury ,.

One of our designers regaled us with a drawing of a short 40mm shaft ( 8mm dia ) with a tol of +/- 0.0075mm !!

Obviously didn't have any clue of how the cost would change from +/- 0.01mm he initially spec'd.

I feel a pythonesque response coming about living at the bottom of the lake etc

I laugh at your 20 microns! I align my instruments at work to 5 micron!

In all seriousness that is a pretty crazy tolerance for a joint Mike...

What do you reckon Mike would do if you asked for a cue 1480.002mm long :P
                          The precedent has been set!

Mmmm you'd need to be very specific about which datum plane to set . The whole datum frame would need to be well defined
in order to measure it accurately. . Most people don't even measure the diameter of the butt, they tend to measure the width.
Any lobing error wouldn't be measured . .

lol. it would have been tighter but other procedures were involved. we had to make allowances so we settled on this huge gap...
