Gbl are a bit more expensive than Phoenix, but there's a reason for that, they're better finished and are now getting used by some pro's, albeit the changing willy nilly type, though most thai brands are top quality for the money...Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

I have never actually asked Stu, but if they were to do custom orders, you probably couldn't get a better cue from anywhereDon't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

As I live in Leeds, I am lucky enough to be able to frequent Craftsman Cues on a fairly regular basis. Dave and Simon the owners sell Phoenix Cues, and for the money they are superb. Craftsman have a table on site so any cue can be "try before you buy" and I always spend a bit of time on the table whenever I pay a visit.
Now, to be fair, I have not had hold of a GBL cue, so am not the best qualified to use any comparison, but can honestly say the workmanship, wood quality and overall playability of Phoenix is really good especially when taking the price into consideration.
Not sure if this helps at all, but for a "mid-range" priced cue then in my opinion you wont go far wrong with a cue from this makers range.

I think general concensus is you can't go wrong with either choice but if money was the determining factor then Phoenix wins, if its finish your after then GBL. Shaft wise, splicing, exotic woods I think are on par, probably because they are both made in Thailand so possibly use same suppliers and who knows, could actually be all part of the same set up for all we know!

Stephen Maguire is currently using a GBL 1pc maple (C8 model).
He has won two ranking events while playing with it, UK PTC1 and the Welsh open last weekend. My deep screw shot
