What would one be worth in standard size and excellent condition?
Ask Jim on that one, it'd be worth what someone is willing to pay!

(yes I know they're not cheap, I didn't intend them to be!..)

Good luck Jim! According to Gordon's auction price guide there's been a total of 0 turn up on ebay in the last 7 years.
Was offered one a few years back but it was only around 52".
Gordon's auction price guide is useful . . .
My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins. I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)

Very true, I'm very tempted to start collecting myself and get some cue racks put on the wall, though i need to learn more about what cues to add investment wise.
Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning...

A great place to start is to buy Gordon Radford's auction price guide, you don't want to know how many of those "highest prices paid" are cues I own! (mainly from buy it nows - before I knew any better). It's only £20, and it would have saved me at least a grand I reckon in cues I bought for say £400, which generally sell for £250 etc.
There's potentially a version 2 coming soon I think, I'm not sure what he's going to price that at, but it'll be an invaluable source of collectors, and anyone selling a cue.

Thing is tho, prices only go as high as people are willing to pay, so not really a true indication of their worth ???
Ie cue may be worth £200, but you havn't got one yet and end up in a bidding war and pay £300, still really only worth £200 ???? or is it now worth £300 ??? lol
Buy it now's i think are usually priced higher than they really would take, if dealt with direct to avoid the fees, if i see i cue i really want i always ask for a deal
It's more a case of "last price seen syndrome" - e.g. you've seen a cue sell for £250, to that type of cue is worth £250 - whereas the average price for that cue might be £100. I think most sellers are definitely suffering from either last price syndrome, or highest price syndrome.

Thanks for that... I've got that bookmarked for when i start collecting which will be very soon. I'm sure it's easy to get carried away at the start but as time goes on... i assume you should become more wise

You still need to look out for fakes and be careful late at night when you think "I just must have that cue" . . .

That's what worries me especially after a few jars of nectar
A few jars can add a hundred to the price (maybe more) . . .

I saw a good example on ebay around 3 years ago and it went for 220GBP
will put a pic up in a sec
I have seen the professional before but the perfect cue is totally new to me. as for price guides they only tell half a story, as perpetualboredom said it is worth what somebody is willing to pay!
