  • Stu works his magic again !

Went to see Stu over at Greenbaize for a new tip on my Wooly cue ready for league games starting up again next week, and took one of my old cues with me to see what could be done (Sydney Lee cue) It had a 10.7 wonky ferrule with an even wonkier tip on it, just looked so wrong
So anyhow 30 minutes later it is now 10 mm and perfect, old ferrule was very very thin walled, wish i had taken a before pic, but it was hideous, cheers Stu

Looks good. Dave Coutts does stuff like this for me and it's amazing to see some of the results the pros like them can get.

Because old ferrule was so thin, Stu had to get out his fancy tenon cutting machine, was a joy to watch, i was about to just sell this cue on, but it plays and looks quite nice so for £12 yes only £12 lol it has a new lease of life

I'm amazed it only took 30 mins to reduce the tip size from 10.7mm to 10mm. Usually that would involve retapering the shaft, grain filling and oiling, unless the ferrule is tapered, doesn't look like it though

Mmmmm 0.35 of a mm around the circumference isn't much to lose and can easily be hidden without re-tapering the whole cue !! Good job Stu had that wonderful machine . Must get myself one of those lol

Didn't say you would need to retaper the whole cue, probably only the top 7-8 inches, doesn't look like its been touched though

I would of brought it Mike but Phil had it at the time, i got this and my 1370 Newman back in a swop for a Burwat Champion.
Yes just the last 7-9 inches tapered down, no grain filling required just oiling with his special cloth lol
Longest wait was 20 minutes for glue to go off, Stu wanted to make sure as had to take a fair bit of wood off _

Is this one fairly rare Mike ?? must admit never seen a hand spliced Sydney cue lately in this design, but is virtually identical to a Cannon Match cue i have

I didn't suggest that a whole cue needed re-tapering either !! However if you have ever made a cue and decided to leave the last 7 or 8 inches before you decided what size ferrule you were going to fit !! Would that seem sensible ?? Just trying to put things into context !!! Tommy .

You did mention not having to retaper the whole cue!!! Pointless as I hadn't said you would. I was suprised how quickly Stu had done the job. Looks like he's done a great job and very quickly. I've never made a cue but have replaced many ferrules and slimmed cues down

Stu used 600 grit sandpaper to take the shaft down to required size, i must admit i was thinking ohh bugger when the last 8" or so was nearly white in colour, but with a bit of oil and his trusty old cloth which has wax and oil and whatever else on it, a quick rub down and hey presto it looked like it had never been touched !! Amazing what can be done

Aye amazing what can be done, had a cue sent to me by a lad from the pool league, the ferrule had been butchered, tapered in from 10.5mm at the bottom to 9.3 at the top but even worse the tenon had been internally threaded to take a screwin tip! I shortened it slightly and fitted a new 10mm ferrule and tip, retapered the cue, filled the grain and oiled it matching the colour up pretty well even if I do say so myself, haven't got any before pics but here's a couple of after
