  • need help about my cue asap !!!!

Hi guys need some help asap
My cue has always been silky smooth but I went for a few frames tonight and something dosent feel right. I always play with the arrows and name badge facing up. Anyway the problem is on the underside of this where the cue runs through my bridge it feels really rough, a closer look it seems to be the grain filler I don't know if some has come out or raised up but feels awful when cueing it is only about 6inches of the ash grain I would of sent it away to get sorted but have league matches on Tuesday and Thursday is their anything I could do to sort this untill I have enough time to send it off to a pro to sort it out properly. Any cue makers on here know how I can sort it,

    Please helpppppp!!!!

need help about my cue asap !!!!

it could just be dirt/chalk-dust accumulation so a little clean could be the answer.
on Mike Wooldridge and John Parris sites there are instructions to clean a cue (cue care).
IF the grain filler has dropped out you can do a refill, there are a few threads about this but usually before you do a grain refill you would clean the cue anyway so this would be my first thought.
Usually though after a clean (with only very lightly damp cloth/paper towel) you may get a dry area which you will need to reoil.
    hope this helps
Obviously if you wish you can send the cue to a cue maker/doctor and have it refurbished.

too many people dont realise ash his made up of harder sections and softer sections ,the dark wood is harder than the lighter wood and if people rub down with even wet and dry it will take off more of the lighter wood causing dips and bumps, dont know if you bought like this as your own cue was ruined, very difficult to bring back without taking something out of all of shaft, grain filler wont fill dips and hollows.

If it's the grain part raised I'd guess it got wet as this can raise the grain or make it feel rough. You should be able to buff it back down with some elbow grease or give it a very light sanding with a very fine wet and dry pad (but don't wet it!) on the affected area then buff it. That should sort you until you can get it to someone for a clean/re-finish.

Sounds like something I have experienced when I used too much water to clean the cue with too much vigorous rubbing ( vigorous rubbing of course generates heat, which can't help the filer stay in place ) I managed to drag the filler out, the fix on that occasion was to take it back to the cue maker.
Subsequent to that I have used 0000 steel wool with success on another cue.
Whatever you do, if you use sand paper of any grade then use a sanding block otherwise your fingers will just follow the groves in the timber and make them more pronounced.
I now never use any water/damp cloth at all to clean my cue, after 6-7 hours play or when the cue gets dusty and feels dirty I give it a wipe down with a small amount of linseed oil ( raw ), I leave it for 5 mins and then gently wipe it off followed by a very, very gentle buff with a clean cotton cloth, brilliant result.
Short term fix for you, linseed oil applied with 0000 grade steel wool.
Let us know how you go.
