  • Long ( shallow angle ) splices

Looking at the 3rd picture on this listing made me do a double take on those splice lengths.

    Is this particularly unusual ?

When I started the fingers of my cues had long fingers, its all down to size of square at bottom of the butt, most cue makers I think aim for about a 10mm square.

Does anyone know who was the first to do this style of cue? I've only really seen this on a lot of C.Jone's and a few Trevor White's...

So I take it Jim if you have a larger square that means a thicker shaft, so less splice to be planed off to meet the shaft, is this anywhere near?

No most shafts start around 31mm at butt base, unless somebody wants a thicker butt.

i know many were done during the war when importing wood was not a priority but as for who was first i am not sure, many canon match cues from the 30's have the burr bit made up of more than one piece.

Sorry I haven't asked my question right, before fitting a splice, the shaft is tapered down, is that correct?, if you make a smaller or shallower taper (leaving the tapered bit of the shaft thicker) does this make the fingers thicker?

The shallower the taper the longer the fingers, the deeper the taper Orsay 5mm the thicker and Shorter the fingers.

Cheers Jim. It's obvious now you have told me, the deeper the taper the more of the splice will be in contact with the shaft.
