  • Cue Stick Maintenance - How to?

I recently purchased a 3/4 9.8mm Ash Wood Cue. As with every new purchase, you tend to get extra cautious with your property.
My intention here is not to be just cautious, I want to make sure my cue stick last long and gets every attention required for perfect playing.

Please suggest some easy to implement cue stick maintenance tips - Tip/Shaft/Butt.

Also, I have sweaty hands so I want to make sure my stick is smooth enough during play but not extra smooth that it slips.
Someone told me put some baby powder on the shaft (and on my thumb/fore finger joint) to keep the cue smooth while playing.
    Is it a safe/proven practice?

Clean the cue with a damp flannel and a little soap and dry it with a towell immediately, about once or twice a year to remove grime. Use a high quality wood polish once a year, or cue oil, whatever you desire, to keep the wood from drying out and possibly warping.

As for your sweaty hands, use a cue glove, no need to muck about with powders or sprays that could get onto the shaft, and if that would make you feel a bit conspicuous don't worry, you'll have the last laugh when you beat the bloke who's constantly wiping down his cue with a towell.

All you really need to do is wipe your cue down with a cloth and wash your hands regularly, if you find grime has built up then use a very well rung out almost dry damp cloth and buff dry immediately. Tip wise, occasionally you may need to reshape but otherwise just bed it in properly first and it wont need too much maintenance depending how hard it is

i wash my hands before and after i play, then with the towel i use to dry my hands i would wipe the cue down with the damp part then the dry part. then send the cue to a cue maker for a servis once or twice a year .. as for the swetty part i would look into your general diet if i were you
