Could have had one for 70 quid a few months ago but typical me, I forgot about it. Re: pipe cutter, thing is mate, I'm not the most gifted at this kind of thing. Could you explain the process please?

I take it you only use one wheel of the pipe cutter when scribing a circle as wouldn't it cut a thread line on a taper if using both wheels?

I generally hold cue upright and scribe with a craft knife horizontally whilst rotating the cue slowly so the cut line has to meet.

Cheap pipe cutter, go round as many times as you like then trim the excess with a knife or sharp chisel and then file it or sand it to round it off. Doesn't take too long to get the hang of it free hand, I just feel that the pipe cutter was a bit more accurate. I've only really done it on cues that I've picked up cheap, and to be fair I've had more fails than successes, if it's not snug and you try to over compensate with glue or filler you can feel it straight away.
Pretty sure Andy Gibbs uses this method, or trims them free hand, should be able to offer better advice.

Too small in my opinion as it's designed for tight spaces (I was a gas engineer).

Yeah perfect. Practice first and mark the cutter with how deep you go on your first cut, don't try to cut it straight to the right size, leave an excess to file off and just keep filing until you've got a nice snug fit.

Cheaper than the real thing! Still gotta take it slow to get it right though......
