I have a old steve Davis Riley burwat 1 piece cue.. Owned this now for nearly thirty years.. It started making a horrible noise a few months ago like a ping or a hollow noise when I struck the ball, I've had two ne Ferrell and half a dozen tips in the last 18 months.. It seemed to be ok after the last tip and Ferrell but has started doing it again.. I've tried shaping the tip a little and sometimes when the tip is buffed a little to add more chalk it stops.. I'm wondering if it could be a crack in the cue? Or maybe the weight? I can see the bottom of the cue where the weight is but no movement like it's moving up and down? Any help or advice would be great...

All but once when I've had this issue its been tip/ferrule related.
The exceptions being a Phoenix cue I sold so someone on here where the weight was the problem - tony glover diagnosed and solved it, thing it cost me £25 so not the end of the world.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Is there anyway it can be check to see if it is split? Like I've said in the last 18 months I've had two new ferrells and the guy said he can't see anything wrong? The tip he put on last was very hard, and was ok for a while... But I've shaped it a little, could it be I've split the tip? It looks ok.

Other than with your eyes, or someone else's eyes eye no. Some times if you flex the cue any splits will become more obvious, just don't snap it.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
