  • How well know is Mike Wooldridge cues ?

I have 2 Mike Wooldridge cues, a Black Legend & a Macassar Legend. Both are with traditional flat shape butt.
I'm trying to sell away the Macassar Legend & order another cue from Mike which is round butt.
I recently found the round butt cues are with better grip feeling....
To me, Mike's cue is one of the best.

Thus I posted on FB pages my Macassar Legend for sale & look what comment I got !!
Is it because of not much PRO players using Mike's cues thus he is not well know ? I don't think so..................

    This is my cue.....

More to do with the prices he charges I suspect. Rate his cues but I imagine you end up with a sore bum if you try to resell anything other than his cheapest stock cues.
If people pay it fair play to him for taking their cash - I think it's nuts though.

I agree with this. I have a Black Legend and since I bought it Mike's prices have risen three times. Personally, I rate these cues highly but they are top money and you will not get this back at resale like you could with say, a TW or a Parris. The Blackspin ferrule also hinders resale as lots of players want traditional brass. Your only choices are to keep it or take a hit.

Prices have went up across everyone though, and unlike a few other cue makers you don't have either insane waiting times or no real communication.

Cues have gone up quite a bit over the last few years I remember buying my 1st gbl on of the 1st models it was a 1 piece with 4 splices of burr then red black red veneers 4 more splices of burr the red black red veneers superb ash shaft with butt socket paid £ 170 ish around Christmas 2008. Top line c8s are now £400. Just like people's thoughts on how much do you think someone can charge before people start saying no. In the previous post I said I liked mikes cues but 645 is extremely expensive for a plain ash and ebony cue. Can I afford one yes would I buy one no.i still think john Parris's prices for is standard cues are ok ( the classic to the superior ) I wouldn't pay the ultimates asking prices though what would be your ceiling for a cue.

Would you say some 'makers' are more effected by the exchange rate than others Andrew?..

Mikes legend prices went up to £625 last May so before Brexit and the weak pound. As you say Mike does not normally have a long waiting time for one of his standard cues, which is a great thing in that you can be playing with your new cue within a matter of weeks, but it does not help the resale value as other people can just order theirs new and to their own specs and receive it quickly so no real point buying second hand unless the price is good, no doubt the long waiting time for other makers help keep the second hand value of their cues high as people are prepared to pay to avoid the waiting list.

LOL funny but I suspect in reality since none of the woods are grown in the UK it effects everybody.
