  • JP or Ton praram

Thinking of getting a new cue, can't decide between a ton praram beyond or a JP Classic, they are around the same price....any comments, suggestions?

Parris will hold its value if that's at all important

I don't plan on selling these, more of a quality compare in terms of these two models

The Beyond is their top of the range cue whereas the Classis is virtually the bottom of the other's that should answer the question

I understand but just bear in mind that no-one ever plans to sell their cue when they're at the purchasing stage. Good luck with your choice, hope it works for you.

Can't really go wrong with either. Depending where you are ordering from the JP might be cheaper due to the weak pound. Thai cues getting rather expensive now, when they started out they were good value for money, but I notice the quality isn't quite as good and the prices have increased around 30-40% from a couple of years back.

The TP cue will be better made and from superior grade materials. TP cues are also more consistent cue to cue than Parris. The JP Classic will be a lottery but will have solid resale. Beyond cues are not top of the range at TP. That would be a Ltd with a Pro shaft option.

Better to compare TP beyond with JP Paragon or even Ultimate rather than Classic

Now a days Lots of people order JPU's just to sell it at ultra high price after few years wait

                      Both great cue makers .
Hard to say. You never know until you have played with it.
UK cues have ( in general ) a better finish , imo.
personally , ve seen and tried few TP cues so far and all of them were great players.

Thx for all the feedback I've talked to Ton on fb and decided to get a series 2 instead...got a nice leather case too with the money saved, I believe that the beyond would be a better choice in terms of wood and finish quality, but I believe that a series 2 will be good enough in terms of playability supported by all the good feedback and reputation this maker has and I'll rather put my focus on the skills and practice department than relying on an expensive cue.

The quoted waiting time was only 2 months too, another huge contributing factor towards my decision.......very excited now

For what it's worth, I have a TP series 1 and when I bought it, it was in competiton (so to speak) with a Beyond as well, a superb cue. But when Stu tested them for me, including some Maximus as well, it ended up that the Series 1, which is supposed to be the entry level, was a better player than the Beyond, which was 200 grands more expensive.
So the range is only theoretical and you could end up with a tremendous player even though you stepped down in the range.

                          Anyway, you'll get a great cue, don't worry : )

I think as with all these grades of shafts, they are only really grading appearance, i.e. straightness of grain, spacing of arrows, blemish free etc.

There are lots of great playing cues out there that unfortunately don't have a good grain pattern or have some twisting in the side grain, usually these cues get discarded or used for rack cues. Don't let it be the pnly deciding factor when selecting a cue.
