  • really nice old cues

i've just bought 4 old cues.i was wondering if anyone could give me an approximate value on each one? the first has a tombstone shaped faceplate. on its engraved THE RILEY CUE makers ej riley ltd accrington. ebony handspliced butt, maple shaft 16.5 ounces.57 inches. the second is a joe davis champion cue, world snooker record 147 in red ink on the faceplate. machine spliced ebony butt with maple. ash shaft,16.5 ounce 58 inches. the third has THE COTTRELL CUE makers wm.sykes ltd horbury&london on a white faceplate. ebony handspliced , ash shaft 16.5 ounces 57 inches. the last cue has a small round white faceplate with burnley billiard works exhibition cue on it. ebony handspliced . ash shaft 16.5 ounces.57 inches. all the cues are straight. i've paid 130 quid for the lot so i don't think i've been robbed. i like all the cues and it would be good to know how much theyr'e worth. any ideas anyone?

I wouldn't like to quote any prices as to the value of these cues due to:

Not knowing the actual condition of each cue.

Whether the 'badge' actually belongs to the cue!

And probably the most important reason: My lack of expertise...

However, my personal view would be to firstly congratulate you on your bargain purchases. I would say that the two superior cues of the four would be the Joe Davis Champion Cue and the Riley Tombstone Cue, both of which i would have thought were worth paying £130 for.

That's great, thanks. I have three different spellings of this guy's name.

          F. Cottrell was a prominent professional billiard player from Leeds in the 1920s. He was runner-up in the Yorkshire Professional Championship a couple of times. Don't think he ever won it, but my records aren't complete. I think I can take Sykes' spelling of his name to be the correct one!
