Chalk Stain

I recently bought a new snooker cue, and new Triangle light green chalk. I've started having an issue with the chalk staining the shaft, I have never had that issue before. Its getting in right under the ferrule and has left a ring around the bottom of it, it seems that a bit of the finish on the very end of my cue is a bit worn (which is odd since its brand new) and now it has a green hue to it. How do I deal with this, what can I use to clean it, I have tried a damp cloth then dry it, but it really hasn't helped much.

I'm thinking of changing chalk also, this chalk is waaay too fine, and is making a huge mess.

more info on your cue....its ferrule, and shaft "finish" please

It's a peradon York, ash 9.5mm .. I'm not very cue knowledgeable, but its not a glossy finish...

I took a couple photos, I dont have the best camera in the world so its a bit out of focus, it doesnt really show in the photo. .but the very end of the shaft right under the ferrule where i took the photos is a little whiter in color, where i think the finish has worn off for some reason:

try getting someone else to hold the cue....

then wet the edge of a thin sheet of cloth, and use the edge to clean the chalk off....

ive did this before and its worked, though obviously isnt guaranteed to work in all cases....

make sure you wipe dry right away

Is there a way to restore the finish myself, or would I have to send it to a professional to take care of it? Also, would you have an idea of what I might be doing wrong to cause that? The cue I had before this was an old JP single pc cue I got as a gift, but I never had this issue... Then again, could it be the chalk is very fine and is somewhat abrasive to the shaft, since its rubbing against the shaft and my hand every time I take a shot?

dont over-chalk

and hold your cue at a slight angle (get into the habbit) when chalking, so less chalk particles go on the shaft

its actually pretty easy to refinish a peradon cue but you need to stop getting the chalk on the cue in the first place or you will be refinishing all the time, sems advice here is good. take care when applying chalk basically or it might be that you tip is not very good. if you PM me i can explain how to remove chalk and re finish but i can't post it one the forum incase people destroy their cues!
