  • Is this a genuine Hunt & O'Byrne?

Saw this on ebay and was wondering with so many cues of unknown origing going about whether this is genuine enough?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hunt-OByrne-Cu...QQcmdZViewItem

Not meaning any offence but the disc looks a bit chipped round the edges from the photo so was wondering if any cue gurus could tell?

Hi this is my cue and i can tell you it is genuine! The disc is not chipped and is perfectly flush to the flat section of the butt. The edges of the disc is where the green line would originally have circled the disc, but which has worn off with natural use.
I sold this cue on ebay in March, but the guy who i sold it to, never send the cheque which was really annoying. I am selling the cue as mentioned in the advert as i cannot get used to Ash after playing with maple for so long. Trevor is currently in the process of making me a one piece maple cue. The Hunt and O'Byrne will be a nice cue for someone who prefers ash.

    hope this answers your question

Good to hear, ebay is a bit worrying with some of the cues, i'd have to say a few better photos would be nice, but i won't be bidding as i just noticed you only accept cheques, i haven't even had a cheque book in about 2 years, do banks still issue them?

I agree. I got a so called Lewis a Wilson cue that when i got it, it was stamped with a sports club name in nasty gold print and the ebony was just black paint as the base of the butt was scratched and you could clearly see it was not ebony. I ended up giving it to my club as a knock around cue. You get that with anything you buy on ebay. Sometimes it can be a dog....othertimes you may find a badly described item that once you recieve it, its a bargain!!!

i see that he also accepts postal orders or bankers draft so you dont need a cheque book if you wanted to make a bid on it.

Buying anything of that sort of value off ebay without the paypal payment option is risky.Buyers have no come back at all from a private seller.
I reckon you'd have more bidders had you offered it ebonynivory and a final price more than making up the paypal charges than you'll get without it.

that is true - its very hard to sell an item of any value without paypal.

Well it's upto £340 with a day to go and it's not really anything special, a very basic green plate. The previous hunt & o'byrne green plate that was on a couple of weeks ago was a lot nicer and came with a case and went for £370 at the end. I'm getting scared to see what black plates go for now, it's getting crazy with the pricing of these cues.

I hope for the sellers sake none of the hong kong bidders have come in or do at the end, i had a nightmare with them last time i sold a cue. I might be parting with a Wooldridge CC-06 and don't want to have to go through that again.

Kept bidding, was told that i didn't post to HK, continued bidding, then tried to snipe at the end after being told not to bid yet again.

That's another way to lose money on ebay, refuse to export.

Yes, selling to UK only will take away a lot of potential sales.
If a seller does not want to sell to buyers from other countries, he can put that in his buyer requirement so the bids from other countries will not be accepted. Other requirements such as paypal account, non paying strikes and such can also be set.
For example, if a person does not want to sell to Hong Kong, he can just block all bids from outside of the UK, or just do not sell to Asia. The bidder from HK will not be able to place any bid. However, if the bids were allowed, then the seller is obligated to sell the cue to the winning bidder even if the winner is from a country the seller does not really want to ship to.
One thing that bothers me is a buyer who uses echeck via Paypal to pay and takes more than 2 weeks to have the echeck cleared. I am not sure why, but some echeck really takes forever to clear. Once I had a buyer who paid with echeck, then one day before it was supposed to clear, he cancelled the payment. He asked me to ship the item, I refused. Then he paid again, about 10 days later, the payment was cancelled again. So, a month has gone by, and I have to relist it. Some echeck only takes about 4 to 5 days to clear and that is fine.
In respose to the comment about Paypal, yes, I would not feel comforatble bidding on an item which does not accept Paypal.

I've never understood why someone refuses to post aboard, fair enough if no courier will accept say a 61" one piece but except fom royal mail they all will.

Maybe they ought to send them down as they did with Relf .The white guy in west brom impisoned because he refused to take down his "for sale to a white family" sign outside his house.
