  • Dave Harold's Maple Cue?

I noticed on the live streaming that Dave is now using a Maple Cue and I know previously he used to use a Ash cue

By the looks of it he's using a cue that has got a 3/4 joint in it but does anyone know who made it for him?

Most of the top pros use cues with weights of 17 - 18 oz. Playing on superfine cloths they do not need heavy cues to get the cue ball to move around.

I've just bought a new cue from Trevor White and its exactly 17oz and feels perfect, I think that the balance is more important than the weight.

i agree with oldgit. a well balanced cue is more important than weight. it will help with better cue ball control.

Mr Oldgit and Mr Miste_e, can you share more of your experience on how to decide where a balance point when ordering a new cue please?

I mean, i am confused whether i should choose a heavy cue with balance more near to the butt end; or a lighter cue with more balance near the tip end?

Hopefully with yuor help i can sort out the best cue for myself,
                      Thanks very much........

A well balanced cue just feels well balanced!! By this I mean if you pick up a cue that is well balanced then it feels like the weight is evenly distributed along the entire cue. A cue that is 'butt heavy' feels heavy and unbalanced because most of the weight is in the butt and vice versa......if the shaft is heavy and the butt light then again the cue will feel unbalanced. The 'average' balance point for a 58in cue is somewhere around the 17in - 18in mark.

EH??? Can I smell brandy on your breath Andrew?

No one has been more obsessed with balance since Mike Wooldridge told me that he always aims for balance at 18in and that was May 2005!! Since then I have driven cuemakers mad........!!
