If you go down the option of jacking up and putting in a section of carpet tiles without a full dismantle , then take note .
Some frames on tables are Dowled jointed at leg joints others Morticed and tennon , , if morticed table then you can only jack on side of frame , dowled you can jack anywhere .
if you jack up at the end of the table on morticed jointed tables then you run the risk of having both end slates raied high at the end as the morticed end cross section will move upwards taking the slate up with it .
The jacking up option is at the bottom of my list and will be the most caveated that the committee will not even think about it.

Look at the pictures on Geoff's thread about the 9' square leg table. Perhaps that combination of carpet and carpet tiles would be ideal. You will get a lot of wear around the bottom end of the table and, obviously, none under the table. So with tiles you can swop them around and replace them as they wear.
