Hello everyone. I hope everyone doesnt mind me filling you in on our 1st ever Stage 1 Satelite Qualifier at the Q bar in Chester. This was £17.50 to enter and open to the 1st 8 paying entrants. 1st Prize was a place in next weekends £100 per man 16 player satelite qualifier at the Q Bar Chester. The Winner of that will gain 1 of 18 available places at the venue in Cardiff in December to play for the £25,000 prize fund.
Entries were Lee Gorton (The Gortonator). Brian Morgan (Darth Vader) Matthew Roberts (Penguin). Jack Bradford (The Brad). Richard Remelie (The Baby Rocket). Neal Jones (The Iceman) (Pios). Allan Taylor (The albino Assasin) (Pios). Alex Taubman (The Higster) (Pios)
Before we started, I called a players meeting for a 15 min Q & A. Once all the players were aware that it was only 21 minutes, place the white anywhere after a foul and then they asked the usual questions like:- is there a free ball and what happens if a ball is in motion at 21 min dead. They collected their golf like score cards and headed to their tables making the coin toss before they started to save precious moments. The leader board was on a big screen and updated after every frame. All the players chose their own Nicknames for banter while the games were playing.
The winner was Allan Taylor.(570 Points). New World Record. 2nd place was. Richard Remelie (458 points) (a junior from Cheshire) and 3rd Place was Jack Bradford (427 Points) I finished in 6th on 364 points but in my last match started just 40 points behind Remelie in 2nd and playing him so had a shot at the top 3 even from 6th.
Allan Taylor recorded the highest break of the day 105. Allan moves into the final qualifier at the Q Bar Chester next sunday and he did so for £17.50 and 147 minutes of his time.
He joins players who have chosen to enter at the next stage which provisionally include Judd Trump, Jamie Cope, Michael Holt, Andrew Higginson, Jamie O Neill and Daniel Wells.
Richard Remelie and Jack Bradford for finishing 2nd & 3rd get free entry into the next stage 1 qualifier in the Q Bar on Tuesday Night. The entry list for that is now full.
In full, we all had a great laugh. Bantered each other during play. The top 6 still had a shot at something entering the last frame. My Club had 4 tables in play on a usually dead sunday morning and will now have 4 tables playing on a usually dead tuesday night when we do the next one. & also my club will have at least 4 tour pros in their next sunday not including Ricky. My members will see Snooker Pros play 1st hand. But even though they are pro's at their own sport doesnt mean to say they will be at this 1..which is not Snooker. Right now Allan Taylor is the best player in the world.
I have asked all 8 players to give me an honest quote:-
A Taylor:- a good format for both the players and spectators. Knowing the frames will not go over 21 minutes. White in hand after a foul is massive advantage, the game can turn in 1 shot. All in decent relaxed atmosphere with the full pressure of scoring but squeezed into 21 minutes.
R Remelie:- I think the new format is a great idea which i feel could attract new people into the game. I also felt that the ball in hand and the 21 minute rule added to the excitement of the 1 frame sprint.
Neal Jones:- (the not so cool iceman) Great New Challenge. You are always playing the balls rather than the oponent.
Lee Gorton. Great Fun for the club members being able to play against the better players. Nothing stopping us doing a £2.50 satelite as a means to get in the £17.50 one. The options are endless. Today I played in a tournament with a shot at playing Judd Trump next weekend.
I will post the other quotes once i get them.
