  • Dominic Dale Interview April 2005

    Dominic Dale
Dominic Dale (Current ranking 29th) was at the club on the 12th April filming for EuroSport, we caught up with Dominic for an exclusive interview.

Q1. Your highest break in a competition is 145 in Liverpool 1999, just two points away from the 147. Do you think the big one will be coming soon?
A.That was against Drew Henry, You never know when a 147 is going to come along, it just happens. I have made a 147 in practice and once in a exhibition match.

Q2. Roy Orbison is one of you favourite singers, but what other music do you enjoy listening to?
    A. Yeah Roy Orbison is probably my favorite but I also enjoy listening to Opera, jazz and K.D lang is also one of my favourite artists.

Q3. What has been your favourite competition to play in to date?
    A. The tournaments abroad are fantastic you get to see the sights but professionally I think the grand prix in Bournemouth, tremendous atmospheres at the BIC 1997 – pressure was all on Jimmy which made it easier for me to win 4-0 In a interval I thought to my self I can do this and changed my game plan and won against Steve Davis too.
Q4. Have you always played with the same cue, or have you changed it over the years?
    A. I have had a few cues, but always changed to similar types of cues, I have never had any cue problems when I have changed, but some players its like a superstition to always play with the same cue through out their career.

Q5. You used to collect snooker cues, what was your favourite item? And have you still got it?
    A. I did sell off most of my collection a few years ago but have now got more than I sold, I am a Billiards historian, I collect mostly stuff from the 1950’s, I do have a old score board that I like but probably my best piece is a ladies cue from 1910 it\'s delicate and nice.

Q6. Who is your all time snooker hero?
    A. Steven Hendry in the modern game his dedication to the game and his prfesolium, not alot of the players dedicate themselves to the sport like Steven, it is hard to come by these days.

Q8. We have around 50 young players here at the club do you have any tips for them?
    A. Watch the top guys watch their techniche and there shots, and how they play, don\'t try anything flashey, try to copy the top players, stroke the balls don’t wack them, keep still on the shot hit the ball nice and smooth, and most of all relax.

Q9. What do you think about our club?
    A. Voted 2nd best the country at one point there is alot of space around the tables which is good, I have very good memories of the club. Your not going to find a better club around here, the decor is great and always looks tidy.

Q10. Would you play an exhibition match here for us?
    A. Yes anytime.
