  • elbow position

Hi i have a small trouble about my cue action. My stance and my sighting are good and i stay down and stable during the shot, but i have awrong elbow position, in fact my elbow stuck out of my body ( like Ray Reardon ) . If i trie to put the elbow near my body i feel myself "awkward" and i feel my cue action lied like i can't cue correctly.
Can you give me some advice for fix it?
And a last question: when i'm going to strike what ball i should see for last? The cueball or the object ball?
Thank you and sorry for my bad English

Hi Slh : The basic is to make a straight line when u do cueing action back and forth (shaft to eyes to chin to upper arm/elbow back) and if it's new to you, then you should feel ackward. But you'll feel more comfortable after more practice. For me, object ball is last, but that's a split second 'cause you look at both before striking. Hope this helps
    It's in the Shaft

You state Ray Reardon as an example of what your elbow position is like, but from what I can tell you have said nothign abotu what you think is wrong with your actual cue action. Do you feel this is detrimental to your game? Because the "text book" straight elbow position might not neccesarily be an improvement over your current cue action. As you say Ray Reardon could play like this! And look at Joe Swail for a great example of "unique cue action

On the subject of which ball you look at last that is down to personal preference, personally if I am not 100% concentrating on the object ball I can't pot anything. Some players however, and I believe John Higgins is an example of this, look at the white as they are delivering the cue. I think the majority of players will look at the object ball however whatever works for you stick with.
Its late and I hope that made sense

Need to correct my note on seeing the cue ball before hitting. I was wrong. My coach said that when I am about to push my cue forward hitting the cue ball, I eye the object ball in that split second and not the cue ball (

          thank you too.
Yes i know there are players who don't have good technique but they reach good goals. But who knows if alex higgins had got a good technique would have been even better? This is my thought. For this reason i try to improve my technique
Hope this last sentence is perceptible.
