  • Short backswing

    hi terry;

    I was watching a tutorial video of Ray Reardon theother day and I was amazed how short his backswing was. Can one have the same success with short backswing? It seems to me that the shorter the backswing the less chance you have to deliver the cue accross the c.b.It is less chance of deviation from the line of aim.

    Please, could you comment on Ray Reardon cue action?

    Thanks

    HUFRO:

    Graham Dott has a relatively short backswing and gets good success with it. The danger of a short backswing is when you need power because in order to get the power you have to accelerate rapidly and this will tend to generate shoulder movement which will take the cue off-line.

    The Griffiths school of technique teaches the backswing should be proportional to the amount of power required whereas some other coaches teach the long backswing all the time is the way to go if the student can control it and backswing straight
