  • Doesn't Throtts mean his opponent knocked in a 45 because he stuck a red up and it's such an open pack with this break? That's the way I read it. If you are giving a handicap of 45 get them split up, you will be unlucky to get punished anyway lol.
This is how you play darts ,MVG two nines in the same match!

I read it that he gives his pal 45 start now. I'm with you itsnoteasy, I'd give the pack a right splash if that was me, unless the other guy can get 50s.

I'm gonna have to wait till Sunday to try playing it the Simon way, with extreme R hand side. Raring to have a proper go now though! Bloomin Xmas, right in the middle of the road. If nothing goes down, it shakes the opponent up, especially safety minded ones who are now faced with pots that they shouldn't refuse but may miss!

Markz, did Ronnie use this break years back to really open them up or was it the third ball he used to hit? [note; no attempt to turn this into a Ronnie discussion and go off topic, all rights reserved]
Not sure about Ronnie mate, I stopped playing and watching snooker for 20 years and only came back to the game 4 years ago. I think that's why I'm a bit more open to learning and trying new things, not really picked up any bad habits or got any views set in stone. Just look at the game as enjoyable and do my best to improve.

Yeah, it puts a lot of pressure on the other guy in a way because he can't refuse this opening. But if he messes it up, his better playing pal will have him. It's an aggressive break all right. Really want to try this in league but I'd better perfect it first!

          • If you give someone a 45 start, break off, leave a red stuck tight over the bag and an easy 40 on the table, even if your opponent only gets 35, you're 70 behind without even potting a ball, possibly stuck behind a baulk colour, don't know if that's a good idea.

It's not really meant for competitive snooker where you are actually playing for a trophy, money or the world title. Maybe I'm naive but it's about trying new things out and learning, understanding the game. The worst thing that can happen with this break is you lose a frame. That's no big deal really, I'd rather play well and lose than play rubbish and win.

              • I'm not saying I don't like the break, just that I can see Throtts point of view about not using it. I actually tried it twice tonight, went in off both times and didn't get close to the red still won though.

Keep trying jonny, just a bit of fun but nice when it comes off.

Yeah, the white goes close to the pocket compared to the third or fourth ball break, and if you get it too thick.......... I had a couple of in-offs when I tried it this afternoon. And if you leave the ball over the pocket as well, matey has a nice starter pot from the D.

Hi sorry about the delay. Yes...close to the brown produces a red into the same side corner. As close to the brown as possible!

                      • I had a go at this yesterday when I went to practice. The first one I managed pretty well, although my long potting is more inconsistent than I'd like.

The second one is much more difficult. Very difficult to get the opening red and then position needs to be very good to clear the table.

Here's a vid of me giving it a go for anybody that wants to watch!

Nice video ted, you have the first one down great. The second one does look much more difficult but watching I'm sure once you have a few more goes and get used to it you will be clearing no problem.

                              • Rarely troubled once in, though a couple of very nice black to yellows. Great play.
