I think from what Jim Donnelly told me that timing is how you get through the white sweetly, it is everything from after you finish your pre-address feathers.
So it includes your backswing, the back pause and your ability to push the cue through in a straight line at the point of aim and in the case of screw shots you almost hang on to the white as the cue goes through so the power of the white matches the speed of the cue delivery i think that's timing and if your's goes off you won't pot a ball when your playing well your probably timing the white well at that point as your positional play will be more what's intended. I find stun shots are easier to get the timing right as your punching the ball, screw and top the timing really has to be bang on to put the white where you want it.
