He was a right handed right eye sighter so had a short boxer stance (left foot slightly it front of the right), but the general set up of shoulder outside the line and elbow tucked in meant that he dare not drop the upper arm from the shoulder when playing the stroke, otherwise the cue would come across the line of aim.

You can see that he had a relatively short follow through compared to others and apart from the opening shot in this break when the pace of the stroke denotes a longer follow through and his upper arm drops from the shoulder after the strike, his upper arm doesn't drop from the shoulder once.

Both he and Jimmy White played this way when young and both ended up dropping the upper arm in their later years and played to a diminished standard as a result..

I see what you mean, I will try this out thanks. One thing I was thinking is I am also right eye sighted so can I have my body shifted more to the left if that makes sense? Have the cue directly under my right eye, so the cue will be a bit further up my right chest and should more line up with my elbow naturally? Or do you recommend I keep as I am and just focus on not dropping the shoulder?

Don't try to run before you can walk, sight naturally and concentrate on not dropping the upper arm from the shoulder.
Speak up, you've got to speak up against the madness, you've got speak your mind if you dare
but don't try to get yourself elected, for if you do you'll have to cut your hair

        Vmax is right

Your right shoulder is to the right of your head - because of a squarish stance

Your Elbow I assume is behind your head in line with the shot (can't quite see in the video) - this means your UPPER arm is from outside the line to the line (your right to left) - therefore when you swing freely you hand wants to follow the upper arm, ie away from you

The hand pushes the butt of the cue away so the tip turns across the line to your left

There is a GREAT 2011 thread here http://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/boa...m-amp-shoulder

It's a long read, but some really really good tips about getting the alignment right - once you get the idea self-analysis is much easier

But not a substitute for seeing a good coach

hi ive copied this from a post i found hope it helps, it helped me
so i had a few lessons with a coach and heres what he said
                  the line of the shot...
if it looks straight to you no matter if its right eye left eye or centre, its straight!!!!
                  feet together while look at the line of the shot dont move my right leg,( the foot doesnt matter wheres its pointing as long as your heel doesnt move}
left foot forward(if your right handed} HE HAD ME PRACTICE MY STANCE SO I COULD CUE WITH NO TABLE IN FRONT OF ME WITHOUT FALLING OVER
that was my stance! perfect for me
keep my head on the line all the way down
AND WHERE THE CUE MAKES CONTACT WIH MY HEAD IS PERFECT FOR MY EYE DOMINANCE

Original Source: Sorry guys another dominate eye post http://www.thesnookerforum.co.uk/boa...#ixzz4zvFqSJsW
