  • Weight Loss effects on cue action?

Playing in my first comp after a lose of 5 stone my stance and cue action just broke down with the result of me missing drop ins
i've had enough practice going in to to comp but under the slightest of pressure nothing worked
    1) is this something i need to work through maybe with coaching
    or
    2) is this all in my mind
has anyone else had anything like this?

    All in your head.
Losing weight (if this was intentional) should be making you feel on top of the world.
You played poorly based on your ability... That's all.
Coaching will just screw with your head even more. Work through it...

5 stone is a lot to lose - well done. Just keep playing and you'll find a new comfortable rhythm. Things probably do feel different as you've gained weight over years and made very subtle changes that you're probably not even aware of...now you need to adjust after a quicker weight loss it feels more dramatic. Be happy and confident in your new self and get practicing and you'll be back to your best

        Well done on the weightloss.

I think far too many cue sports players are so focused on practicing that they neglect their health, in particular their weight.

Good on you for showing restraint with all the temptations around - keep it up bro!

Firstly, very well done on the weight loss, fantastic achievement!

With regards to your game: your technique probably has changed a bit due to the amount of weight you've lost. So the point at which the cue contacts your chest; your stance so that you get the cue on the line of the shot... So possibly yes, you may have to get used to your new body and getting used to playing since your weight loss..

It will be a bit different, but well done and I'm sure you'll get used to it.

This is exactly correct. As someone who has gone up and down in weight during their playing career, there is always an adjustment period. I dropped 40 pounds when I started running and it took a me a bit of time to adjust everything. Once I got used to it I started playing my best game at that time. I should get back to running...

Firstly well done for the achievement. It isn't easy.

I've lost 50 pounds within three month in the past just for longer snooker training time. Honestly, it didn't help improving the game... I ended up getting very frustrated and left the game at that time.
I also done the laser surgery recently, which I believe didn't help my game either.
What really makes the progress for me is that one of those days, I had a new understanding on chest to cue, drop straight down to shot, keep still and cueing smooth from elbow...etc...

Look around those top player with a chubby body, which didn't hamper them cueing well and relaxed. Everything will help at a certain level but what really make you progress is those simple but yet comprehended basics.
It is all in your mind. Do those basics thousands times and you will be fine.
