I don't do it some do it naturally, like Ken Doherty, some do it to look good and copy the great players.

Tony Meo and Warren King were the most ferocious finger tappers. Tap, tap, tap, tap...

Terry Griffiths has said it's a bad habit and no one should try to do it deliberately just to look good as it's a fault in your game (albeit a small one) that shouldn't be there.

i certainly wouldnt think any pros do it to look good

i think its just a habbit that when its done doesnt distract the player

I know of players who actually tap their heads on the tables too. Including myself last night when i missed an easy shot during my local league match. tap, tap, tap, tap....

I started doing it with my middle finger, as a means to get my hand more comfortable on the table....
                    Keep on potting.........

Half of people do it, half not. I think we had a poll about that

Am I a great player? Certainly not.

I must confess I started doing it after watching too much TV... Whenever I tap my middle finger I imagine I myself am one of the great players. The question is "Does it help me in anyway?"... I don't think so: I'm still the same guy... The harder I try to make everybody else believe I'm O'Sullivan, the easier it is for them to realise I'm a fake, not the original...

Just be yourself bro.. its better for you and your games.
Play naturally and learn from mistakes then you will improve and play like Ron.
If you like to be different, maybe you can try tap your feet

                          Cheers.

I tap my finger to at times, not sure if i do it on every shot tho, i might be concentrating to much to notice sometimes...

I've done it since i was a young lad. thinking about it i dont know why i do it i dont really know if it makes me more comfy and it does so without realising... i dunno...probably stemmed from watching them do it on tv as a youngster like...think it's just habit now...:snooker:.........

For some it comes naturally, sometimes you did not realise until some of your friends tell you.
I think media plays a big role, and lead many youngsters follow what the pros do nowadays. Like R Walden ,Henry, Mark allen way of aiming. Haha..
