A WISE man once said: “If a door is open, you have to be able to walk through it.”
And many young players from across the South of England WILL walk through that door next Sunday in Salisbury.
The thought of stepping out of the comfort zone of your Saturday morning junior sessions at your local club and competing in a new competition at a new club can be daunting.
Do you remember how you felt the first day you competed in your Saturday morning club? Do you regret it? And there’s your answer.
Like you, all the players are members of Saturday morning clubs. Like you, they want to test their skills against new players. Like you, they want to improve.
It is the beginning of a marvellous and exciting journey that has seen Cuestars members don the three-gold-lions waistcoat and represent their country. And even make it onto the professional circuit.
Cuestars runs junior competitions across the South of England. The first step on the snooker ladder is the Under-21 Bronze Tour for young players who have yet to make a 40 break.
Experts all agree that regular competition sharpens your game.
Parents, don’t put it off another year. That is a classic mistake. Yes, your son or daughter IS ready.
All venues are in easy reach and the round-robin format leading to a knockout guarantees the youngsters plenty of matches.
There are eight Under-21 Bronze Tour events this season. The first is at Salisbury Snooker Club next Sunday (October 9). Kick off is 10.30am.
Membership forms can be filled in at the venue prior to the draw taking place. Existing Cuestars players renewing their membership at the start of the season, and Cuestars Weekend Junior Section players, are charged only £5. For everyone else, it’s £10. The entry fee for each event is £8. You can play in as many events as you like. Draws are done on the day when numbers are known.
The tour moves on to Swindon (November 13), Bournemouth (December 11), Salisbury again (January 8), Chandler’s Ford (February 12), Westbury (March 4), Newbury (April 1) and Swindon again (May 6).
Players earn ranking points at each tournament. The top-16 at the end of the season qualify for Finals Day at Jesters Snooker Hall, Swindon, on June 3, where the winners meet and play a top professional.
Running alongside the Bronze Tour at the same venues on the same dates is the Silver Tour (for players whose highest break is between 40 and 60) and the Gold Tour (for players whose highest break is more than 60).
