  • New member saying hello!

Just got back into the game after a 20 year hiatus but the bug has caught me again! I live in the North East and play in a local league and surprisingly I’m not the worst player on my team!

Hi, welcome. lots of people come back to snooker in later life after long gaps. It’s a great game this time of year in a nice warm room where you can’t see the crap weather outside. 😉

League matches can be good fun , especially when you play away and don’t have to ref!!

That was the case last night. I lost and so did our team! Still, all good fun and an opportunity to have a a midweek beer or two. I’m thinking about booking in a lesson just to get Thea fundamentals right, also wonder if I need a longer cue. I picked up a lovely Kevin Wheeler made cue that I’m no hurry to ditch. But it’s 58 inches and at 6 foot 4 I’d like a coach to tell me if I need to go longer.

Kev makes a nice looking cue, probably worth a lesson at least once to give you something to focus on in practice.

I’ve got a mate I play with who’s 6’ 2” and uses a 59 now but had used 60” in the past so it’s worth getting an opinion as it will depend on your set up and stance possibly as to what fits best.

good luck with it and enjoy. 👍

Thank you! Just less time to play these days, didn't realise how much time I had on my hands as a youth!

I called in at Green Baize for a new tip and it was suggested this is too short but I'd like to spend a little bit of time with someone before I take the plunge (have seen a gorgeous Ton Praram cue in there at 59" that is calling my name). Getting my hands on anything else well known at that length is proving to be difficult, looked for a Parris, Coutts, Wooldridge, White etc but very little if anything about at that length and I'm bored of looking now! This Kev Wheeler cue I have will do the job for now, it's knocked in a 28 in the short time I've started playing again, previous highest break was a 57 so I'm almost halfway there.
