9baller converting to snooker!

Hi guys

Normally it is Snooker players converting to 8ball or 9ball not the other way around!

I am based in Wigston, Leicestershire.

I first picked up a cue in Jan 2010 after one of my early dates with my girlfriend (now wife). However I played American Pool almost exclusively for 3 years 4 months. I've dabbled with snooker on the odd occasion when cueing got lazy at pool and I needed to get back in shape.

Why am I converting to snooker? I fancy something different and if snooker can build up my technique then 9ball can hopefully become easier. I also have ambition to hit a century break.

Snooker is a great game and to use one of Ronnies favourite words, I have the 'buzz' for cuesports once again. 9-ball gets stale after playing it for so long.

Good luck with it - i quite enjoy 9 ball myself, good focus on positional play which can hopefully transfer over to snooker

LOL at first part. 9-balls tougher than people give it credit for. Potting okay thats easier, but the kicking, jumping, breaking, safety play etc is all very different to snooker.

With that said, I want to devote time to snooker I want to be better technically, and achieve my aim of hitting a century break as well

Back to your topic. I'd recommend any 9baller, even very high level ones, devote some serious time to snooker. One thing that is required is a definite change to cue action, especially if you have that see-saw cue movement and too fast backswing without any pause that is so typical among pool players. Those that are willing to make a change will benefit greatly...at both games.

I guess I'm lucky in that my action is not like like that of the asian pool players who have crazy wrist movements, jumping up off shots and twitching but timing the ball perfect lol. I do need some technical work and I will be looking for a coach for that (apparently both Wreford Berry and Stefan Mazrosis come highly recommended) but hopefully wouldn't need as much as some players.

Shot selection is the big difference, you cannot play good snooker by trying to be a hero going for long shots all the time. Steve Mizerak was proof of that and he was a world class pool player!

Reading Corey Duells win was strange. Sad to see a national championship played over best of 9 frames. Corey has played the best shot I've ever seen but he'll have to change his stroke big time. He's very inventive so he may discover a new way to break at snooker - he innovated a lot of different break offs in pool
