The Statman, I believe that any posts in the Prediction Contest that have been edited will be declared void.

Do you take people's predictions as you see them posted, on an ad hoc basis, or do you wait until after the prediction deadline and process all the predictions at once? If it is the latter, then presumably there would be no reason to prohibit editing, provided the last edit is prior to the prediction deadline?

    I was just wondering.

May I also take this opportunity to congratulate and thank you for an excellent contest and all your hard work. (Even though I don't seem to be winning it, by some quirk of fate. )

Rather than let them all mount up, I enter the predictions into the database every now and then, usually when two pages' worth have been added. This saves me doing them all in one lump, particularly as I am often away visiting the tournaments and so have to do it when I am not spectating! (and whenever I can find Internet access!)

Everyone can of course edit their own posts, but, in view of the above, and because edited posts in a contest COULD look spurious even though the edited date is clearly displayed, I thought it better to outlaw them.

Besides, it takes virtually no longer to retype a few predictions in a new post than to correct them in the original post.

The Prediction Forums have been set up so that no one can edit their posts (except Mods and Admins, but there would be a date and time stamp on it) At least I *think* it was set up like that - it has been awhile

I can still edit mine, but I cannot edit anyone else's.

I notice in Pot Black Robert edited someone's predictions, I think because it was a best-of-1, and the Predictor only stated who would win by putting that name in bold, rather then specifying the rather academic 1-0 or 0-1.

I did of course accept that.
