  • So what do you think of it so far ?.

Having watched most matches on TV , at this year's world championship , [ something i have done since 1980.] I keep hearing the commontators saying how this is the best tounament ever . Well i beg to differ .
Firstly apart from one match ,none have thus far gone the distance . or looked like doing so ,The16 players who qualified ,totally failed to get close to there seeded opponents [even Higginson ,who faced a Murphy who was awful]. most may never get a better chance, as none of the top 16 have been playing well this year .

Williams gifted [HIS MATE ] Hendry the match .Fu, and Ebdon , well did they turn up ?.And as for the Hundred breaks , too much of a good thing , its starting to be monotonous . Obviously the 147 was great , but Hendry is probably doing a Fred Davis , one final fling , he misses to many easy shots ,to ever win a world or Uk ,again .
The Semis will probably be three of the worlds top 5, and the winner will be either Murphy or Higgins .
Finally , if they are going to make the tables [ pockets easier ] i think by constantly changing the cloths ] remember constant 100 breaks make the game like 9 ball , I would do what they did at Wimbledon bite the bullet , there they reduced the pressure in the balls to make a more even playing field [Nadal would have never got close to winning otherwise ] Put thicker cloths on the tables, and if need be reduce the length of matches to say best of 21 to the final, because i for one am board rigid thus far, Close games equal tension ,equal , more support/ sponsors . this is dirge .

Couldn't agree with you more. When a player is in on say 20 and the balls are spread you know its frame over. Why are centurys exciting?

well, anyway, it's an interesting tournament so far. some very very good matches, some surprising "comebacks".

as for centurys: sure, they are not that exciting to watch. I rather prefer a 40-60 with a few balls left and some good safety duel for sure. but hey, that's the game.

Don't personally agree on the centuries, I love to see them and would never complain about them. That said I do love a good scrap on the colours too, ultimately a bit of everything is good I guess.

As for the tournament as a whole I think it has been good without quite being great, barring Hendry/Ding, Higgins/Cope and Higgins/Selby - three matches that I have found thoroughly entertaining. Hendry/Murphy wasn't bad either.

Whatever happens tonight it looks like we will have a couple of cracking semis in prospect too...

Thanks for agreeing re the hundred breaks , i notice the 3 games that have enthralled the people who have posted ,feature , Selby and Higgins , two players who know how to fight , Higgins invented the safety shot, played near a pocket as opposed the baulk cushion ,and Selby , utalises his pool knowledge to tough out games . Both though are past there best ,Selby had a couple of good season's, and Higgins is just scraping through with his experence .
Its hard times for the game . O 'sullivan cannot pot anything over 8 ft anymore , [even a genius cannot keep changing there cue ], Ding has never recovered from the abuse ,at the Masters . Mcguire, if he is not banned after the hearing re match fixing , has also lost his way ,[ how he is no 2 , beggers belief ]. Murphy has the cue action ,and is possibly the only one in the current top ten bar Higgins that will win a uk or world again . Ryan Day typifies what is wrong with the new breed ,too attacking . our club has a player who is near to becoming a pro, via the pro am circuit won't name him , break building can't touch him , get him in a scrap he can't cut it , Some of the new breed need to learn every aspect of the game , the sport would benefit and the paying public would also see a true contest . based on accumen , as well as potting ability .

I have not enjoyed a WC this much for ages and think that its been great great standard so far. I think so what if the table is a bit more generous, watching great play is what its all about, getting a century on any table is hard as hell and I love watching any and all. There is not 1 semi finalist that does not deserve to be champion they are all great players. Its allllll goooood

i like seeing a bit of everything, from excellent safety play to seeing many 100 breaks being made.

I think overall the standard has been high throughout - and i can honestly i have enjoyed every match i have seen and not once have i thought to myself how "monotonous" it's been to see so many tons this year.

I'm sure if there weren't enough centurys being made there would be people moaning about that too!
