My favourite players: Walter Lindrum (AUS), Neil Robertson (AUS), Eddie Charlton (AUS), Robby Foldvari (AUS), Vinnie Calabrese (AUS), Jimmy White, Stephen Hendry, Alex Higgins, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Dominic Dale and Barry Hawkins. I dream of a 147 (but would be happy with a 100)
If it weren't chucking it down with rain and hail, how would you know it was nearly summer?
LOL - true
Why was Allen arguing over the free ball call?

Looks like he didn't understand the meaning of "extreme edges".
Or was the cue ball close enough to the object ball so the extreme edges possible to hit (regardless of the other ball) were not a ball width apart? (if that makes sense).

Yes you're right I think Mark was thinking he needed to be able to hit both sides. Very common misunderstanding.

No, I think Mark might have been arguing that it wasn't a free ball because Walden could hit both sides (as in pic above) and it shouldn't be a free ball for Walden.

I truly believe people only hold this opinion because it's been stated as 'fact' by so many commentators and players. It's a good cue action, but he plays every shot twice as hard as the better cueist in the game - like the aforementioned Robertson for example. Ding is another with a better cue action. I could go on.

must have missed this (had some family over ) which frame was this in?

Agreed. That's what I mean. Lol. Knew this would get confusing! There's a difference between being able to hit both sides and being able to hit the extreme edges. The closer the cue is to the object ball affects the position of the extreme edges (as demonstrated by your picture). I was hoping Neil Foulds would have clarified things in the post session analysis but I don't think he did. I had to pop out so maybe I missed it. Anyway all over now so on to tonight's session.

found it, end of frame 7, with the yellow and green.
I think the ref was right with declaring a free ball as the cue ball would have hit the green before the left extreme of the yellow.
For the definition of a snooker (and hence a free ball) there is no difference between whether you say "hit both sides" or "the extremes", as the terms mean the same as per the direct line from the cue ball to the object ball. The points of contact always vary as they are determined by the distance between the balls.
and then Allen gets a free ball a few minutes later
