A big well done to Anthony McGill with his 5-3 win over former world champion Graeme Dott.

Would also like to say congratulations to John Rea, the reigning Scottish Professional Champion (last played 1989) Promoter of this event and owner of the host club The Lucky Break in Clydebank, for ressurecting this fantastic event, was brilliant catching up with some old friends i've not seen for a number of years.

I would echo those thoughts. It is great to see this event back on the calendar and good to see encouragement from Barry Hearn for the other nations to do something similar. It is also good to see all the top players taking part despite minimal prize money.

Back in th 1980s all the major countries held their Professional Championship with the help of a subsidy from the WPBSA. It was not just the 'home' countires but Canada, Australia and South Africa as well. The Irish attempted a revival a few years back. Their championship always featured players from all of Ireland. Would it not be great to see these events restored. I know the power has shifted and certainly Canada and South Africa don't have any professionals at the moment and Neil Robertson is carrying the flag alone for the Aussies.

The Welsh could certainly put in a meaningful contest and there are enough pros from both sides of the border in Ireland for them to do the same. Although Barry Hearn only mentioned Wales and Ireland, why not an English Championship as well. For logistical and cost purposes it might be necessary to restrict it to the 32 highest ranked players as there are so many English professionals.

They could follow the precendent set in the 1980s when all four championships- Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English, were held during the same week making it much easier to fit them into the calendar. The Chinese and possibly the Thais could also get in on the act.
