Too true, and that's why refs are afraid to not call the miss.

But, I have seen the rare occasion where an escape is very hard, off several cushions, around several obstructing balls etc and the player has taken the easiest option (not a harder option which will leave less on), and proceeded to miss by very little, yet the miss is still called, until contact is made.

This situation only really happens where nothing can really be left on unless contact is made, like for example when a red is tied to a cushion. So, of course the other player keeps putting them back in, until they finally hit it, whereby they generally leave something on.

I guess you could argue it either way.. without the threat of the miss rule, would the player intentionally miss by a fagpaper? Perhaps. Is this abuse of the miss rule if/when the player is doing their best to hit the ball on, perhaps.

Sexy ref could be distraction to the players. I think they should get more Russians female ref to make players miss often.

I think it's you who are missing the point.
The miss rule was brought in because some players were complaining that the running side escape off the side and top cushion from baulk to clip the pack of reds finely and return the cue ball to baulk was being abused. Now when this shot was played and missed the player who laid the snooker, whether by a great shot, a lucky shot or a simple negative roll up, wasn't in all kinds of trouble as you suggest, because the advantage was now his in that he had two choices, either accept the situation for himself and play the next shot or put his opponent back in.

In the case of rolling up to a ball on dead weight in order to leave it safe and not reaching by say an inch or two or less. it used to be that the player who laid the snooker knew that he now had the advantage in that he had those two choices again. For the shot to be played over and over again as it is now is just wasting time as everyone knows that the ball will be hit some time and the outcome will be the same as it was when the cue ball was half an inch short. In fact it could even be worse for the player who laid the snooker as he now doesn't have those two choices. Of course it could be even better if the escape is played too hard, but the player snookered knows this and also knows that he can play as many shots as he wishes to eventually get it right so he does while his opponenet racks up twenty or more points in fouls sometimes.

There was and still is a rule pertaining to players conduct that the referees could and can use to award a frame if he believed that a player played a deliberate foul in order to gain an advantage, but of course this would be controversial and would require the referee to have enough bottle to implement it. Instead we have the miss rule and the never ending replacing of balls and racking up of foul points stretching out the frames with no big decisions made, just the inference that a player isn't trying when getting out of a snooker, and then being applauded when he calls a foul on himself leaving his opponent in.

You're right in that todays players would be up in arms if it wasn't called but that's because it is now being used as a negative tactic on tables that are far too easy to make frame winning breaks on. That said I still see players who have a reasonable chance of a pot left them having the balls replaced rather than having a go.
I always watch my YEAR OF THE HURRICANE dvd before the WSC and the last frame of the match between Alex Higgins and Doug Mountjoy is a great case in point for having the miss rule scrapped. Seek it out somewhere if you can and you will see for certain that a truly great frame of snooker would have been totally spoiled by the miss rule.

All I'm saying is that Michaela Tabb is as good as any of the other referees in not makng a big call by always calling foul and a miss.

No I'm sure you don't but if David Beckham was refereeing and wearing tight jeans and a string vest your eyes would no doubt be glued to him every time he replaced the pink.
Why oh why does a man's appreciation of a womans beauty have to be labelled smut, catty jealousy maybe ?

Let s hope she will not call Jan Verhaas to make a decision in the world final, as she did in a PTC match a few months ago.

Bollocks, with his looks and his money and fame the last thing you'd think about is football. You could even buy a house of your own just to put all your new shoes in. Truth is if Beckham or Torres or even Bernie Ecclestone made a pass at you, you'd open your legs so fast you'd come close to breaking your pelvis.

Of course I am DandyA, though it is a rather base one and a direct quote from Bill Hicks about seeking the alpha male, who in our society is no longer the biggest and strongest, but is the one with the most money. Just getting myself down to the same level as someone who calls Man Utd footballers scum and ex Liverpool footballers traitors, hardly a beautiful mind.
BTW there are armies of young women who dress like tarts and go hunting for pro footballers every weekend trying to be the next Colleen Rooney, that's sexual equality for you, men look for beauty and women look for money, it's the way it is and we all know it.

Bernie Ecclestone with his now ex wife. Tell me what the attraction is for her for this billionaire, of course it's his great sense of humour, you know that thing that women always say is so important. Tell me what his attraction to her is for him, of course her caring and loving nature, that thing that men are always on the lookout for.
Give me a break and get real.

i think Ivy and Michaela should be the main referees we also need more women on the tour after than bridging over balls and cue power theres very little male advantage in snooker Allison Fisher was treated shockingly when she was on the tour and Reanne has very little exoerience of playing main tour players she would do better next time round (if there is one) there are other women around who [lay men like the German Elizabeth Bins
