Snooker Cue Alteration

I have a friend who has got hold of a old one piece cue, however he was wondering if it was possible to make it into a 2 or a 3/4 cue so its easier to carry round for matches

I told him hes nuts and should leave it as it is.

Yea , He should leave it as it is. Trying to make the cue into a 2pc or a 3/4 pc will shift the balance point in the cue. Its best as it is!

Well it depends whether he is a good player or not, most players probably wouldn't notice that the cue feels that different with a joint fitted. Its possible to put a joint in and not affect the balance position, you just have to find the balance position as it is now and then fit the joint in at that position. It might not be perfectly in the same place but it shouldn't be more than an inch out.

Well if he's sent it to a top cue maker they will make sure the job is done well and will mention the throw of the balance if any at all. 1 piece cues are nice but they are a pain to carry around, I should know I've had mine for 9 years. Ronnie had a joint fitted in his and so has Ken Doherty and it hasn't affected their games, I'm sure your mate will have no problems.

the only reason hes thinking about the change is what you said its awkward to carry around, he also does not drive i think hes dreading trying to get in and out of friends cars or taxis with this new cue.

thanks for the advice i will pass it on. too be honest i am not even sure what cue it is, just out of interest i will let you know.
