  • Is Hendry passed it ?

What do you all think ?
The reason I ask ...is that he is about 50/1 in the bookies to win a tournament nowadays....massive odds for a great player.
I dont know I have a feeling that he will come back to win a championship soon ......... 50/1 !!!
Surely thats worth a punt for the next several tournaments,
or am I just going to throw my money away?
But there again I am asking a forum who thinks that Jimmy White will get battered by Mark King in the masters ,when I think he will win !
    I'm confused.

Hendry is clearly past it and for the last 3 seasons he has played snooker at times a poor amataur would be disappointed in but every so often he can pull off a good steady performance.

a lesser player would have fallen out of the top 16 by now playing like he has been but Hendry always does just enough when that old fighting spirit kicks in.

Thing is, you are a fan of his and you are saying that he is passed it...
Now me personally sees that he still has a great cue action ( one of the best, behind the nuggets) and can still play great snooker ....he is only 40.
I dont know why,but I think he will soon just relax, and play like he is capable of.....I fancy him to win a tournament soonish
50/1 seems like a massive price!

I don't think he's playing as good as he should be doing.

Mark King 6 Jimmy White 1 at the masters. King without doing anything much special at all himself will romp it with White handing it on a silver platter to King by pressing the self destruct button coughing up an embarassingly high number of glaring unforced errors.

And it's far too late now for Hendry at 41 in the upcoming world championships and then likewise in all the following years to come. Nobody in their 40's has won the world championships since Reardon 32 years ago, and nobody as old as 35 or 36 has won the world championships since the mid 1980's. Such achievements attained a hell of a long time ago now so for Hendry to suddenly do it now at a time when he's not facing just a bunch of oldies the way Reardon in his 40's did way back when he was won 5 of his 6 world titles in his 40's, let alone 7 years older than the previous oldest world champion (and that's a significantly older age especially now) 25+ years later would be the biggest buck trender of all time.

Simply a 40 something cannot win a world professional snooker championships or be unbeatable in today's climate.

Hendry hasn't won a major since 1999, when he won the WC for the last time at 30. He hasn't won any of the UK or Masters since 1996 (and he was only 27). To his own admission, he's struggling big time. Winning the WC would mean playing at high level consistently for 17 days. You use your brain and draw your conclusions. Simple as that.

Yeah he's past it, but he's not down and out. Steve Davis went something like 7 years before reaching another final in 2004, and probably should have beaten O'Sullivan. He had his chances in the UK a year later too. These great players don't lose their ability or expertise, just their consistency so from time to time they do get another crack at a title. Hendry got to the semis of the WC last year, and yet again it took Ronnie to beat him. Ronnie and Higgins don't get to every final so he's going to get opportunities. Hendry's biggest problem is sticking around for those opportunities. Davis was happily winning his first round matches which he had to do to stick around, and then as he puts it he would usually get one or two good runs per season. Davis stuck around thanks to his matchplay, but there's a question over whether Hendry will win enough first round mathes to stick around for his chances. He's doing ok this season though, so I reckon he's guaranteed another season in the top 16.

Of course he's past his best, and that's perfectly normal at 40. That doesn't mean he can't win a tournament anymore but time is certanly not on his side.
