      Hi chassmi,

Can't believe your dad is Wally West! Theres a name now! An old boy at my club used to hang around with Wally back in the 60s and 70s.
Ok i think i can answer your question, i believe it was the English Amateur champioinship he won. I will try and confirm.
But i know the guy at my club spoke very highly of Wally, saying he was a terrific player. I will ask him for some stories so i can relay to you.

It wasn't the English Amateur as these are on record.

I think it can best be found by local newspapers from that time.

        Keep searching folks!

I have only just found this website and I was a friend of your dad and your uncle henry. we all started playing about the same time at the Lucania in Hounslow. Wally was the first person who made a 100 against me. I met up with him at a reunion at the Bulstrode hotel in Hounslow in the 1990's.
Wally won a national competition the Junior (under 19) Snooker Championship in 1957-58 season beating a chap named D.Bond.
I have this printed info in a `POT BLACK' 1986 diary I have kept all these years. If you want me to scan this for you let me have an e-mail address.
                Regards

If anyone would know nthe answer it would be 100-upper.

When Wally made his 151 break, my late friend John Posner was the referee!

when i lived in portsmouth, Wally used to get in a couple of the clubs with his brother , he was a fantastic player and a Real character ,i belive he even managed Jimmy White at one stage ,if you change the thread to who is wally west i am sure you would get a few better answers ..

Back in the days a lot of really good players were left behine because there image did not meet Joe Davis and Co approval. So if your dad has the hump and does not speak about it thats why. Patsy Houlihan got treated the same way....

Wally was a brilliant player. Brother of Henry West - both great characters. Wally also did a lot work with Ladies Snooker in the early 1980s organising events. Later Henry also put on some events too.

The 151 with my old mate John Posner as ref is probably the most famous achievement that's known about Wally. But if you won any junior or BSCC or London events in those days, you could play.
