As a general principle that is correct, but that ball would need to be snookering you on *all* reds (when red is the ball on).

Imagine this line up along the top cushion, with just two reds left. Red, Pink, Cue Ball, Black, Red. Therefore, you're snookered on both reds, so you could nominate either pink or black and trickle up to either. This is a fair shot because the one you have chosen is not snookering you on the other red. IE if you nominate black and trickl;e up to it, the pink is snookering your opponent on the red the far side of it, so therefore not a foul. As I say, the nominated free ball must be the effective snookering ball on all remaining reds for it to be a foul.

I never knew this. I am impressed. Can't wait to cause chaos in my next league match with this one.

Yes, I think that's the case but is common knowledge I felt. The other application is much more interesting.

Yes, as JRC confirmed. When only pink and black are left on the table and you have a free ball, it is a fair shot to lay a snooker behind the black which has been nominated as the free ball.

This is what the official rules say (it is important to note that is says 'snookered on ALL reds'):

                  12. Snookered After a Foul

After a foul, if the cue-ball is snookered (see Section 2, Rule 17), the referee shall state FREE BALL.

                  (a) If the player next in turn elects to play the next stroke:
                  (i) he may nominate any ball as the ball on; and
(ii) any nominated ball shall be regarded as, and acquire the value of, the ball on except that, if potted, it shall then be spotted.

                  (b) It is a foul if the cue-ball should:
                  (i) fail to hit the nominated ball first, or first simultaneously with the ball on; or
(ii) be snookered on all Reds, or the ball on, by the free ball thus nominated, except when the Pink and Black are the only object balls remaining on the table.

                  (c) If the free ball is potted, it is spotted and the value of the ball on is scored.

                  (d) If a ball on is potted, after the cue-ball struck the nominated ball first, or simultaneously with a ball on, the ball on is scored and remains off the table.

                  (e) If both the nominated ball and a ball on are potted, only the ball on is scored unless it was a Red, when each ball potted is scored. The free ball is then spotted and the ball on remains off the table.

                  (f) If the offender is asked to play again, the free ball call becomes void.

To be honest, I have a few players I'm going to look to play this against purely because I know it'll wreck their heads and they deserve it for what they've done in the past!

Heres another scenario, say if my opponent leaves me snookered after a foul behind the black with just pink and black left, also he leaves the pink over the pocket, can i?, 1)pot the pink using the black, 2)pot both balls into the pocket, also if i pot both what do i score? 6 or 12??
