Robertson has got to do it in the same season - I dont think that it is possible anymore for any player because the feild is too open and the standard is higher lower down the rankings now with more players playing without fear because of the number of events and the match practice they now get which has improved the standard greatly for a number of them - in a quick run to 4 or 5 it can be anyones day - and as the frames you need to win a round are less now in the UK so it becomes more of a lottery -
A few players have managed it but looking back I think I would have to say what Mark J Williams achieved in 2003 was the really special one for me - he really was unplayable that year and to win the triple crown in an era of such immense talent is something I do not think we will ever see repeated again.

Rather pointless if in a career, not quite the same thing !!!

You can win all three in your career but that is not the same thing.
On current form, Robertson has to be a good bet for the UK this year & get his career crown.

just had a look at Wiki and there it is defined as a player to win the big three "at any time in their career"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triple_Crown_(snooker)
so it is noted across different seasons but to do so in a single season is a major achievementUp the TSF! :snooker:

The "Triple Crown" thing is a pretty new innovation in snooker. They never referred to winning the 3 as that up until 3 or 4 years ago. In fact, it was always the "Big Four" majors, being those televised by the BBC. Sadly the Grand Prix is no more, although it was replaced by the World Open and moved to the Far East.

You have to go with history. The worlds, masters and UK are defo the big three. Obviously very few of the players before the 80s would have had a realistic chance due to age etc and Thorburn was hampered by the fact that in his peak years the UK was for UK passport holders but in the modern game these three are well ahead of the rest in terms of prestige.
