  • Is it a miss?

    Hi all,

I would like to be 100% clear on these two 'miss' rule examples... And also hopefully prove to a friend I am right.

    1. Let's say the difference is 25 points with 22 points on the table. One player is in front by 25 and misses the Brown due to being snookered. This then makes it 21 points the difference so there is a chance the player who was losing can win.

Is a miss called? Before he took the shot it was 25 points the diff

I have a mate that will put the points on first and then say 'it can be a miss because I no longer need snookers'.

    2. 22 points the diff with 22 points on the table. So the player behind can draw and hopefully get a re spotted black. Can a miss be called?

Thanks - enjoying the forum do far!

    1. No Miss
    2. No Miss

    1. No miss because sec 3.14(a)(i) any player needed penalty points before, or as a result of, the stroke
    being played;
, snooker before or after, your scenario was BEFORE.
    2. No Miss because (ii) before or after the stroke, the points available on the table are equal to the points difference excluding the value of the re-spotted black; your scenario again is the equal numbers BEFORE the stroke.

Both of these rules are caveated by the following:
and the referee is satisfied that the miss was not intentional.
If ever the MISS is deemed intentional then a MISS will be called, regardless of the rules above.

Dean - that would be great mate.

I hope all others are as helpful and as friendly on the forum - I might post a thread to see if I can borrow a John Parris cue! Lol

            Cheers Dean

Just note that the latest version of the rules is dated November 2014. It's basically the same as the August 2014 version, although after comments were received the penalty for a push stroke reverted to being the value of the ball on or ball concerned, whichever is higher (for some inexplicable reason it had been moved to section (a) - value of ball on).

thanks for the info, so "making a push shot" has gone back to 10(a)(v) where it was before (sep11).
