  • What happened to BILL TIMMS (snooker referee)

    Hi
I was just wondering if anyone out there had any information on the snooker referee Bill Timms.Looking at Alex Higgins new book I saw he got a mention.
My family used to stay at Bill Timms home in the mid 70s up to 1983 when he lived in Skegness.Indeed my father used to play snooker with him.I know he sold up and moved to a place called Burgh-le-marsh just outside Skegness and that is when we lost touch with him and his wife Vera.Of course I realise he was about 70 when I last saw him so of course he will be getting on if he is still with us.Can anyone help ?

I'd be interested to know too, crucible77. All I know is that Bill refereed the world championship final in certainly 1973, 74 and 76 and possibly others as well. He only officiated for half the '76 final between Reardon and Higgins as he announced he was unwell and was duly replaced by John Williams.
