Stephen Maguire and Jamie Burnett have now been released by Stratchclyde Police having been detained as part of their investigation into betting irregularities.
They had 'helped police with their enquiries' but no charges have been brought against either player.
Both Maguire and Burnett have insisted they played no part in any betting coup.
Strathclyde Police said their investigation was continuing.
Just a shame that this was the first snooker on the TV of the 09/10 season
its just uncanny how consistant they are in bringing it all up again...
it happened a week before the WC and now about a week before shanghai.
its laughable the incompitance in this matter..mon said its complicated its not complicated its simple...
someone notified the authorities and they take it from there should be sorted far quicker than this....all this is based on bookies not wanting to pay a bet.

Your ignorance in this case, as in most cases actually, is astounding. You haven't the slightest clue as to the workings of this, or any other Police case. You will not have a clue about any evidence procured, any statements taken, anything AT ALL yet still you decide it's all a load of imcompitance (sic) and quite possibly one big Police stitch-up on Snooker...
110sport, who manage Stephen Maguire, have issued the following statement:
Stephen Maguire was questioned by officers of Strathclyde Police today over alleged irregular betting patterns relating to a match between Maguire and Jamie Burnett at the Maplin UK Championship on 14 December 2008.
Maguire’s legal representative Peter Forbes said; “Police spoke to Stephen, their questioning and points put to him based upon information given to them during their initial interview with my client in the spring of this year. Having answered those questions, Stephen was released without charge.”
Maguire, 28, added; “I have nothing to say other than I can be doing without this. I wish this was over and done with and that I didn’t have these allegations hanging over me so I could concentrate entirely on playing snooker.
“All I want to do now is forget today and concentrate on preparing for playing in China next week.”
There will be no further comment from Stephen Maguire or 110sport Group on this matter.
Wild is on to something, it always happens just before tournaments.
Excerpt from police interview:
Good cop: Look, Maguire, make it easy for yourself.
Bad cop: Just tell us you little punk...or get used to potting the brown.
Good cop: We're trying to help you, we really are.
Bad cop: All we want is the scoreline for Shanghai!
Good cop: If you just give us that we can make this all go away.
Bad cop: And if you don't we put you away!

Oh yes police are a waste of time, I think we should just go around doing whatever we please and sod the consequences as there will be nobody to arrest us ' anarchy' . Well If you really believe that then indeed you do sound rather ignorant. As already mentioned we do not know the details about the case and the police are just doing a job if asked to invetigate they have to investigate. Anyway I am sure they have better things to do than persecute two snooker players and by the way police officers can also be huge snooker fans as well.
