Is it not a bit far to come just for a piece of snakewood, Khizzy, or do you not live in India?

By the way, did you come to a decision regarding the specs of your new cue? Oh, and who were you thinking of to make it?

I like my cue Macassar ebony and Thuya.
I think Macassar might be the nicest wood for butts.
      I just love it.

I was tempted at one time to go for a cocobolo butt with a single ebony splice with a thick light wood (maple, Satin?) veneer.

I have to say what Krypton said can be v good: Plain black ebony with nice white maple.
I could design cues all day though. I've done so well not to think of a new one in to years.
Would still like a pearwood one day!

      Totlxtc mate your getting obsessive!
Go have a pint and knock a few balls in leave the wood alone.

The pieces of Pippy elm are about 100 years old. So very well seasoned. It really is beautiful when its polished as its a lovely golden colour. But hard as hell, hense i have had to get a leather strop block and some jeweler rouge to get my plane blade sharp as a razor. The pear is actually very attractive and different. I wont be using it any time soon as its not my favorite and has a few problems with it. But nice all the same.

This is the Pippy Elm. Piece on the left just has some oil wiped onto it. The rest are just cut:

i dont mind flying to the uk for that beauty.

ive decided its gonna be 29.5mm,ash wood, one pc,17.5oz,9.25mm,ebony butt with 4 violet rosewood or dark cocobolo splicings with think maple veneers.

im not going with snakewood because i already have one on order.

and for the cuemaker theres no need to think, its trevor white all the way.

Cue sounds good to me, pal. Violet rosewood is beautiful, I agree, but nothing beats COCOBOLO!! Trevor is a very good choice for your cue; he's also the cuemaker who advocates stiffer ash for a more consistent cue for more consistent play! So, I don't think you can go wrong with your choices.

What you could do is ask Trevor what he thinks about your idea of a 27mm butt diameter and see what he thinks.

I have to admit that I've tried different butt thicknesses; 27, 28, 28.5, 29, 29.5, 29.6,30 and 31 and I felt most comfortable with 29.5, 29.6 and 30 with 30 being my current favourite. I'm only about 5'11" and I'm quite slim-boned, my hands are long and slim and yet 30mm does the trick. Have you tried many cues to see what you really like?

The Pippy Elm looks fantastic, Totlxtc! Any ideas where it comes from?

I got it from a antique restoration place. I got the block and its about 2 ft x 3ft x 2.5 inches so plenty to use. No idea where it came from.

i have always used a 30mm butt but i feel just a fraction thinner would be perfect so thats why im going for 29.5mm,but the problem is that my cue has been damaged in transit, i wonder if trevor has any cues ready with him, with two really important tournamets coming up in the next coupla months and with no cue im getting really edgy.

Yeah, in that case 29.5 should be OK for you. Good luck in getting a cue in time for the tournaments, I hope it all goes well for you. I have to admit that that's the reason I've got 2 playing cues, just in case something happens! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

My old cue was 30mm and I can't play with it now it feels massive. 29.5mm will make a difference.

Looks a lot like Kingwood to me. Is it a master cue? If it is then it's kingwood, but not the best quality/colouring.
