Actually, what is with Sightright? Have you tried them? I am very curious about what it actually does--is it a training drill to help a player to sight straighter? Or just to tell a player when he is sighting wrong?

Sightright is a very useful tool - it's a straightforward piece of board that you place in front of you. From the standing position you assess your intended line. When you then get into the cueing position (a movement in which your line of vision is different) the sightright provides feedback as to your line of vision on the actual shot. Most of the time, you'll find that your intended line (from the upright position) doesn't end up being your actual line. The feedback provided by Sightright enables you to make the neccessary adjustment to your line of shot.

          Feedback is the key...

I agree. It's not fair to include the SightRight in a list of items to be mocked. If you try the experiment where you line up your shot over a partly covered SightRight and get someone to remove the cover, you're likely to be alarmed by how far off you are sighting.

At £35 + shipping for two pieces of board with a line painted on it's a bit pricey though, and very easy to copy.

Thank you very much. I have always been quite curious at Sight right, but could not really understand the concept from the web site. I do notice that I sometimes sight one line but get down on a slightly different line, especially when my body has to be a bit twisted due to some awkward position.
So, this Sightright tool is just a piece of paper, with a straight line drawn in the middle with another piece of board covering half of the paper? Is that right?
I though it was patented and therefore must be quite a bit more complex than that?
                Thank you.

We're getting a bit off topic here but it's basically a square of board with another piece on top of it covering about half of the first bit. There's a perfectly straight line along it that continues down the step. If you are sighting correctly the line will be unbroken. The best effect is seen when the bottom section is covered, you then line up what you think is straight and get someone to remove the cover. At this point you will probably cry WTF?

Regarding the patent. A concept can be patented. Obviously lots of people have nailed two planks together before but if they didn't use them as a sighting aid then this can be patented. It could be difficult to police this as it's so easy to replicate that anyone could make one. But SightRight seems to be a lot more than the product itself, they run courses on sighting etc. And they can prevent someone else from producing or marketing a copy commercially.

No but to keep getting off point has anyone ever seen one of these laser thingies?
                      Are they legal in competition?
Oh and it is laser not lazer it stands for: Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. I've got a physicist mate who gets really annoyed at lazer and starts ranting about yanks!

Oh and I have a sight right and imo it's crap!
You might disagree but expensive for a board that just said I was sighting correctly. I was throwing all my shots to the left at the time maybe I'm just bitter.
And the price of the courses they run are hilarious!

                      But back to gravity cue!
Or are we bored of that now?

Note at 11 in the morning I originally typed laser but then next at 11 at night I typed lazer. Must have been the beer as no one gets moe ****ed off with American English than me I usually get into a fight over the word soccer.

They aint legal in US pool and I very much doubt they would be if anyone tried to use one over here either.

As for the gravity cue and it's keel weighted hull I reckon the TSF submarine has blown it out of the water dont you?
