  • Stamford Cuemakers cues

Greetings from Finland and a Happy New Year!

If anyone here at TSF has a cue made by Stamford cuemakers, could you please share your opinion/experiences on them? How is the quality, balance, finish etc? I've been planning to buy one, so it would be nice to hear opinions.

I had a Stamford cue before,I request a solid wood when order it,but in my opinion my cue's is a little bit whippy, not enough power. My order was 58.5inches and 19oz with natural or slightly foward balance, but the cue is only 58.3 and 18.8oz,although it dosen't really matter, the balance point on 14"(I think is a little bit backward).
One more thing I have to say is about the "finishing",no oiled finish on the shaft makes me feel rough. Finally, my cue is not bad when playing half table shot, but the whippy wood and backward balance gives me problems when playing long shot and deep screw shot.
May be Stamford made good cues, but definitely not this one.

I tried one or two out out...One was a beautiful long splcied one piece....Felt amazing..the other a two piece that felt like a one piece cue because of a new joint thing they use.

I thought that both cues were beautiful and I have owned top of the range Parris cues a Trevor White and many others...
For me a hand made cue from this company is on a par with anything else on the market....without a doubt.

Mark Selby, Ding and Ebdon go there along with a number of other pro's...they have a table were you can try cues out and anyone who knocks them does NOT know what they are talking about.

May be Stamford made good cues, but definitely not mine.
May be Selby's and Ding's cue were good, may be those cues in his show room were good too,but definitely not my "custom cue",that's the different.
I'm just telling the truth, may be it just happen on me,who knows? It's all my opinion,is there something wrong?OkOk,I shut my mouth and enjoy the FANTASTIC custom cue myself!

One of my mates, khizzy on this forum plays with one. Hand made single piece. Ash and Ebony. No splices.

Beautiful cue. Plays excellent. At least I think it does . Haven't played more than a few shots myself but khizzy knocks in high breaks like 70's & 80's all the time.

              Didn't come cheap though.

Agree,Selby and Ding make many century and 147,won ranking tournament with their Stamford,He's the man,the best cuemaker in the world!

But I rather use a O'min machine made ,powerglide even a house cue, like Mark Williams,Stephen Hendry and Ken Doherty, their cues seems beautiful too.10 times Wolrd Champion, making 147 at Crucible and uncountable century.

Hi! Thanks for all posts and keep 'em coming! No need to get agitated, there are as many preferences as there are players, all appreciated.

I've been thinking about a custom made 3/4 jointed cue with the "better" standard. I might also take the special joint if it gives the cue a "one-piece-feel".

It's a bit of a gamble though, I need to buy it without trying it because of the distance.. but then again, no such cues are available at Finland anyway.

I think the length and weight difference is within reasons, but 14" from the butt end sounds very backward balance to me. I would think forward balance means at least 16" or 17" or even more from the butt end.

I have a one piece Stamford that was made for me last year.

The cue plays well, but one of the splices is uneven, and the cue doesn't feel as if it has been finished to a very high standard.

I also have a one piece Wooldridge, and I'll tell you now, the Wooldridge is in a different class in terms of finish and attention to detail.
